TRiCIS is proud to support Mark as he aims to raise £10,000 for Walking With The Wounded
For the past six months I have been training for the Marathon des Sables and am heading out to the Sahara Desert on the 7th April - only days/minutes to go before entering and completing the “Toughest Footrace on Earth”. For six challenging days I’ll run over 250km (156 miles – nearly 6 marathons) through endless dunes, over rocky jebels, and across white-hot salt plains. I’ve been told the sun will be my constant enemy with temperatures regularly reaching 50 centigrade and the sand my constant companion, stinging my eyes and causing lots of it chafing where it shouldn’t! If that doesn’t sound hard enough, I will need to be self-sufficient in everything throughout the endeavour – carrying all necessary food and supplies on my back as well as any clothing, sleeping and emergency gear that I wish to use between the start line and finish. We are given 10-12 litres of water throughout each day to use, which adds another 4kg of weight at the start of each day.
This enormous endeavour will all be worth it when I cross the finish line knowing I have met and conquered my most physically and mentally demanding challenge to date, whilst raising lots of money for a very worthy and close to my heart charity.
Walking With The Wounded creates a pathway for wounded, injured and sick veterans to re-integrate into society and regain their independence through physical and mental health support with the stated end state of full time employment. Every year around 15,000 skilled and capable men and women leave the Armed Forces after serving their country and us. The majority make this transition successfully but a meaningful majority struggle and Walking With The Wounded are there to support them. To find out more visit wwtw.org.uk.
I hope you will be kind enough to sponsor me and support me in my endeavour, as knowing each and every of the 260,000+ (over quarter of a million!) steps will be for a great cause.
